This month, Colonial Place neighbors rolled up their sleeves and joined forces with teams from the Norfolk Master Gardeners and City Forester Steven Traylor for an educational and hands-on pruning event. Together, they carefully trimmed and maintained over 200 Crepe Myrtle trees throughout the neighborhood \u2014 keeping CPRV\u2019s tree-lined streets as beautiful and healthy as ever.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The event wasn\u2019t just about hard work \u2014 it was about learning. Residents gained valuable insight into proper pruning techniques that meet city standards, empowering them to help care for the trees around their homes. As a helpful guideline, residents can perform minor trimming on any city tree branch no thicker than a thumb \u2014 a simple \u201crule of thumb\u201d to remember! Participants also learned that \u201csuckers\u201d growing from the base of trees should be cut as close to the ground as possible to prevent rot and disease from taking hold.<\/p>

A huge thank-you goes to Terry Reading, our CPRV Environmental & Community Improvement Chair, for providing much-needed coffee and donuts to keep our volunteers energized. And of course, heartfelt thanks to every neighbor who came out to lend a hand!
