CPRV Civic League Board Meeting\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 21NOV22\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 6:30 p.m. \u2013 8:12 p.m.<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>

Speaker (Asphalt Art)<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 President introduced Melissa Seek who is suggesting this to slow traffic\/welcome to area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

– Artist (Maury HS teacher & students) would do pro bono.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

– Would have to close streets for few days\/maybe reopen with block party, do in 2 areas, and a sign.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

– Poss timeline(s):\u00a0 Jan\/Feb design, Apr student proposals, and May start.\u00a0 Alternative:\u00a0 Aug\/Sep – present a possible rendering\/image of what they would do.<\/span><\/p>

– Estimated cost<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Paint\/supplies\/block party $3800 (high end); Civic League could provide drinks\/snacks.\u00a0 Questions\/discussion<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Treasurer<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 How long does paint last\/renewal (every 2 yrs) @$1800 renewal.\u00a0 Funding \u2013 not in budget; look for partnerships\/grants but 25% of current budget\/coffers.\u00a0 \u00a0David<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Get with Elizabeth River Project. \u00a0\u00a0President<\/u><\/strong>: We have to go through all wickets; May 2023 likely won\u2019t happen with funds and such.\u00a0\u00a0 Send powerpoint\/etc. to her\/she\u2019ll get out to the board.\u00a0 \u00a0Next grant cycle:\u00a0 Feb.\u00a0 Want to be the board that made a difference.\u00a0\u00a0 Digest and re-visit at the December board mtg.\u00a0 Melissa<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Would donate\/get donations; maybe discount from stores.\u00a0 Treasurer<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 River View may want somewhere else.\u00a0 Life cycle cost estimation (would have to be a long-term budget item so it doesn\u2019t turn into a bad picture in 5 yrs.\u00a0 Question:\u00a0 Upkeep\/replication process if want to do again\/more?<\/span><\/p>

Membership (Harris)<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Membership drive discussion<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Drive<\/u>: I emailed President\/Social, last board mtg mentioned poss drive in DEC with w\/various options for free membership, discounts at various neighborhood establishments, or something.\u00a0 Will attend future marketing mtg (w\/Shannon) and maybe get discount at local businesses for membership (Treasurer mentioned).\u00a0 Possible Jan\/Elation membership event w\/Social committee (suggested poss spreading to other businesses).\u00a0 Treasurer<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Membership is only $10; seniors $5.\u00a0 Not raised since he has been a board mbr; not big incentive.\u00a0 President<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Thought of incentivizing membership, maybe Toys for Tots or food donation.\u00a0 Biggest membership show at mtg was Mayor; thinking Rep Doyle.\u00a0 Membership<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Around 105\/110 mbrs.\u00a0\u00a0 Media<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Work a discount on advertising w\/membership to get more for both?\u00a0 Social<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 How many new mbrs fm tailgate?\u00a0 Two.\u00a0 Did one at Elation\/Coogans for free food if came\/signed up.\u00a0 Path forward<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Harris meet up w\/Social & Media.\u00a0 \u00a0Next mtg<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 12DEC22 \u2013 Harris will be gone.\u00a0 Need to vote on by-laws.\u00a0 Can do at JAN mtg.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Social<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 DEC mtg \u2013 3 of 4 down.\u00a0 Refreshments (drinks) and nice cookies.\u00a0\u00a0 President will check on food at church.\u00a0 NOV \u2013 Thankful tree \u2013 can\u2019t do in the circle but will do online.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Media<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Mtg \u2013 setting up a mtg next wk and a media kit for advertising on site.\u00a0 Reached out to a civic league organization (suggest we join it offers a lot of help\/$250 per year).\u00a0 Hopefully able to distribute a media kit within the next few weeks and some ideas for raising advertising funds.<\/span><\/p>

Environmental (Matt Lynch)<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Proposing trees that need repair in right of way\/effect on environment and getting some companies interested\/do pro bono (VP brought up example of recent storm\/big tree and\/or keeping trees in good repair).\u00a0 Need to figure out some proposals\/ways to go forward.\u00a0 Have mtg w\/arborists coming up.\u00a0 Also seeds.\u00a0 Thinking community library and\/or if civic league could have a part in it.<\/span><\/p>

Projects<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 Would like to get together with Environmental on Crape Myrtle and signs\/mermaid projects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Eco\/district branding<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 been working on branding tenets\/etc. and came up with trail\/path that laid out eco district; Knitting Mill Watershed is one that there is a grant for; discussion about Elizabeth River Trail possibly being done in conjunction.\u00a0 \u00a0$20K grant for north end of a development on north end of Mayflower and connection to clam shell.\u00a0 Conversation to possibly tie Elizabeth River Trail to Knitting Mill Watershed to greenway to zoo.\u00a0\u00a0 Will be exploring other options than clam shell as they may be problematic to animals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Our November Civic League meeting brought together more than 30 neighbors at Kingdom Embassy Ministries for an evening of community updates, celebration, and connection. From welcoming new attendees and electing Riverview\u2019s new representative, Terry Reading, to hearing from Brian N. Friedman on the future of Lambert\u2019s Point Park, the night was filled with great energy and momentum. Residents also heard updates on neighborhood safety, upcoming social events, and exciting initiatives like the Pets of CPRV 2026 Calendar and Elizabeth River Project Shoreline Planting.
